This vase was an innovation of the Kangxi era; its name derives from a wooden mallet used to wash clothes. The body of the vase is painted in cobalt blue. Its stomach bears an illustration of one scene from Tale of Hongfu, an courtesan for the Sui (581-618) minister Yang Su happens to see the hero Li Jing and is immediately captivated by his brilliance.
