This sculptural ceramic bottle represents two owl heads. Both heads are connected by the arc-shaped handle. Furthermore, the face of the owls are incised and painted with stepped motifs and scrolls, a symbol that represents the connection between the underworld and the upper world. Owls are also dual animals that express the complementarity of opposites, because while flying through the air- the world above – they are night birds, and night is homologous to the inner world in the Andean cosmovision. In that sense, this funerary art piece expresses the connection between worlds that occurs in death, when the ancestors pass to the inner world. (UH)

(UH)
