Inlaid white porcelains from the Joseon era, which followed from the soft white porcelains of the Goryeo period, were usually glazed and inlaid rather haphazardly. But this bowl has a fine finish, soft texture, and delicate design, making it one of the most beautiful Joseon inlaid white porcelains. The simple yet elegant vine design, with lines that are somehow both sharp and diffuse, corresponds well with the refined form of the bowl, recalling the blue and white porcelain of the late Yuan through early Ming Dynasty in China. Although the form of the bowl closely resembles those from the early Ming Dynasty, its inlay and glaze demonstrate the tradition of Goryeo white porcelain. The bowl seems to have been produced in the official kilns in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do Province around the 15th and 16th century.
