This is a ceramic bottle representing intertwined spirals. The ancient Peruvians had, like any agricultural society, a key concern to understand the cycles of nature. They knew that there are cycles in nature, such as those marked by the return of the seasons, and believed that in a similar way, we humans are born, live, die and pass into the subterranean world from which life is born again. In the Andean worldview these natural cycles are possible because the forces which give life to the world are in constant movement. This dynamic is represented by the symbol of the spiral, which is represented in this bottle. Two spirals of different colors intertwine and surround the container body. The contact point of the two spirals is located exactly below the orifice of the bottle spout. (UH)

(UH)
