Small to medium sized modeled spindle whorl. Generally spherical shaped and slightly flattened at the poles. Shallow groove around the circumference has a series of short incised lines that run perpendicular to and across it. The whorl has been embellished with punctate decorations around each end of the perforation. One side has them arranged in four lobes radiating from the perforation, like a flower. The other side is more abstract, with a generally ovate design. This spindle whorl was recovered from a pit associated with a deep adobe lined pithouse located in a habitation area at Pueblo Grande site. Pueblo Grande was a large village site located at the headgates of a major canal system occupied as early as AD 500, through 1450. Museum Accession: 1996.17
