During Louis XVI’s reign, the Queen’s Apartment was redecorated in the style of the day. In 1786 two ornate commodes were delivered for Marie-Antoinette’s Games Room. They were supplied by the cabinetmaker Beneman, and had been created under the direction of Hauré, based on a piece by St?ckel. Richly adorned with a motif of intertwining plants and featuring Sèvres porcelain panels depicting mythic figures, it complemented the arabesque walls painted by Michel-Hubert Bourgeois and Jacques-Louis-Fran?ois Touzé, following Pierre Rousseau’s architectural designs.
