The cup has raised decoration with a mythological subject: Galatea between sea deities and the Triumph of Bacchus. The scenes were copied from two medals by the late-baroque Florentine sculptor Massimo Soldani Benzi (1658-1740).This kind of raised decoration began under Carlo Ginori (1702-1757) in the early period of the manufactory’s history and was long popular. The cup is skilfully made; the handles are interlacing white and gold twigs, the inner border is decorated in red. The saucer has a raised decoration with shells and ribbons and small painted insects. It is a particularly rare piece, one of the earliest examples of a recurring pattern.
