Remains of the foundations of prisoners’ barracks, sick bays and kitchen barracks, as well as the arrest bunker, were brought to light during excavation of the premises of the Concentration Camp Neuengamme, which were carried out by the Archaeological Museum of Hamburg. The finds made during these excavations reflect the various origins of the deported, e.g. French, Russian, Polish, and Dutch coins, as well as prisoner Tag. These and other personal belongings of the prisoners, among them self-made pieces of jewelry, supplement the written and photographic evidence, narrate individual fates and show the unfiltered everyday reality in a concentration camp.
