One of the first farming culture in Germany took its name from a large cemetery near R?ssen in Saxony- Anhalt. The typical vessels of the R?ssen Culture have a bulbous base and most are richly-decorated with extensive triangular patterns, quadrangles, and chevron bands. At Hamburg-Lohbrügge such a R?ssen Beaker was found in the Boberg Dunes at a mesolithic settlement. Like the large number of perforated and ground axes found here, the production of which was still unknown to the people in northern Germany, it shows that there were far-reaching trade contacts between the native hunters and gatherers and their neighbours to the south, who already followed a completely different lifestyle as farmers.
