Small to medium sized perforated sherd disk, manufactured from a redware jar sherd. Exterior surface bears a heavy polished slip, while the interior is unpolished and unslipped, but very smooth and even; paste heavily tempered with sand.. Disk was chipped to shape, and the edges ground, which produced a slightly asymmetrical but roughly circular disk. Slightly off-center perforation was biconically drilled, mostly from the exterior surface. This disk was recovered from a Civano phase compound room in a habitation area of the Pueblo Grande site. Pueblo Grande was a large village located at the headgates of a major canal system. Occupied as early as AD 500, the site reached its greatest extent during the Classic Period. Museum Accession: 1996.17
