Medium to large sized perforated disk, manufactured from a Sacaton Red-on-buff jar sherd. Design executed in reddish brown paint on a pinkish buff background. The exterior surface is very smooth and even, and the interior surface is only slightly less so. Shape is rough and the edges are incompletely smoothed; the biconical perforation is slightly off center. This spindle whorl was recovered a free-standing room in a habitation area at Pueblo Grande. Pueblo Grande was a large village located at the headgates of a major canal system. Occupied as early as AD 500, the site reached its greatest extent during the Classic Period. Museum Accession: 1996.17
