This jug is a unique piece in the Iberian Peninsula. Its origin can be found in the Nuragic culture of the island of Sardinia, in specific, in the period of the Iron Age (I). Its presence in Cádiz can be explained by Phoenician commerce, given the significant colonial settlements in the south-west coast of this island (Tharros, Sulcis, Bithia and Nora) and the important relation to the natives. At the same time, this jug from calle Cánovas del Castillo, linked to other archaeological material, confirms the presence of a Phoenician settlement in Cádiz, where, to date, there has been little material evidence of colonial settlement, in contrast to the abundance of funerary elements. Moreover, the date of the jug and the materials accompanying it indicate that the Phoenicians settled in Cádiz during the end of the 9th century BC, a little before they did so in other places along the Andalusian coast ; well known by archaeologists (Castillo de Do?a Blanca and Morro de Mezquitilla).
