This is a sculptural ceramic bottle depicting a head, also known as “portrait vessel”. The character's facial features have been achieved with great detail, as well as the arrangement of the hair and body adornments like headdress, turban and decorative elements such as feathers, heads of birds and geometric designs. Analyses of large groups of these sculptural bottles indicate that they feature members of the ruling elite, priests, warriors and artisans. Some of these people were even represented at various times in their lives. Most of these portrait heads were modeled in ceramics bottles with the characteristic arch-shaped handle, which met funerary functions. Rafael Larco Hoyle indicates that this is the first piece of his collection, which was given to him by his father, Rafael Larco Herrera. (UH)

Esta es una botella escultórica de cerámica que representa una cabeza, también conocida como “huaco retrato”. Los rasgos faciales del personaje se han logrado con gran detalle, así como la representación del arreglo del cabello y de los adornos corporales como el tocado de cabeza, el turbante y los elementos decorativos como plumas, cabezas de aves y los dise?os geométricos.
