A scene of picking of land snails (Scutalus sp.) which live in the hills of the north coast of Peru is depicted in this sculptural ceramic bottle. These snails feed, among other plants, from the San Pedro cactus that contain mescaline, so they become psychoactive species, which when consumed by humans, produce altered states of consciousness. Therefore, these snails were required for the rituals of consumption. In this scene the collectors use a stick to collect the snails, and place them in small baskets. (UH)

En esta botella escultórica de cerámica se representa una escena de recolección de caracoles terrestres que viven en las lomas de la costa norte del Perú (Scutalus sp.) y que eran requeridos para los rituales de consumo. Estos caracoles se alimentan entre otras plantas, del cactus de San Pedro u otros que contienen mezcalina, por lo que se convierten en especies psicoativas, que al ser consumidas por el ser humano, generan alteración de los estados de conciencia. En esta escena se puede ver a los personajes recolectando caracoles usando unas varillas; llevan peque?as canastas donde colocarán los caracoles. (UH)
