The sides of this rectangular dish point straight up and the four corners of the underside each have a cuboid foot attached on an angle. The form is based on the Tamba Ware square dish collected by Yanagi Muneyoshi (1889-1961) (now in the collection of the Japan Folk Crafts Museum in Tokyo). Like Hamada Shōji (1894-1978) and Kawai Kanjirō (1890-1966) , Yanagi Muneyoshi called the crafts created by unknown artisans for the daily use by commoners min’gei (folk crafts) and appreciated the simple beauty of these crafts.
