In the archaeological excavations in Cástulo in 2013 a seated figure holding a stringed musical instrument was recovered. This instrument, the pandoura, is a lute long neck and three strings with a small soundboard.
This sculpture in terracotta, which could be around the V-VI centuries D.C., perhaps is representing a muse.
Hidden in the shadow of the lira (linked to the gods), representations of the pandoura have been infrequent in ancient art, possibly because of its association with the common people, as it was a popular instrument.
