This plate is from a 165-piece china set designed specifically for use on the Westmoreland, the Fricks' private train car. The 82-foot “rolling hotel” was built in 1910 and purchased from the Pullman Company at a cost of $39,656.16. The car featured dining and observation rooms, a kitchen, quarters for staff, and four private bedrooms. The Fricks traveled in their car to Florida, California, and other areas out west. Helen Frick inherited the railcar and rebuilt the interior in 1926. The Westmoreland was scrapped in the 1950s.
