The present lot is of an Imperial type and large figurative scenes were collected by the Chinese Imperial Palace. The Palace Museum collection holds one piece with a closely related scene, also with apocryphal Chenghua mark and just 5cm larger than the present dish. This is reproduced in Compendium of Cultural Relics in the Palace Museum Collection: Wucai and Doucai, 1999, page 107, no 97. Another version of the same scene from the Franzero Collection see Dominic Jellineck and Roy Davids, Provenance, Beacon Press, England, 2011, p 187.
