RARE AND EARLY PLATE IN FAMILLE ROSE VERTE.
China. Qing dynasty. 1st half of the 18th c.

Porcelain, painted in the colors of famille rose verte. The scene shows a young civil servant with his wife taking tea or wine from a servant’S tray. His old mother as matronae of the house is sitting in an alcove on a bench and admonishes the young couple with raised finger. From a staircase nearby a younger person is watching the scene. The floor is defined by tiles in seven colors, columns support a ceiling with four-colored paneling, from which hangs a folded transverse drape. The narrow frame at the rim of the plate is decorated by the four attributes of the scholars virtues: music, calligraphy, painting and play. Height 5.6cm, Ø 35.5cm. Condition C. Chip on the back of the lip.
