STRIDING CAMEL WITH RIDER. CERAMIC.
China. Early Tang Dynasty. Late 7th century.
Grey sherd with painting. The pacing camel is shown with open mouth, so the teeth and tongue become visible. On its back is a removeable saddle with straped bags and flasks, over a large saddlecloth with fringes moving in the wind. On top sits a young rider, who most probably used to have rains in his hands. Hight 57cm (with saddle), length 58cm. Condition A/B. Usual restorations.

In our house a similar piece was sold at the 347th auction as lot 146, however the camel was lying.
