This is a sculptural ceramic whistling vessel with a glazed surface, from the early colonial period, the first 150 years after the Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire. In it we can see that the topic of the hunt of the deer that has been present in pre-Columbian art since very early times has been replaced by the topic of the submission of a big feline by an elite personage. What is being represented is the subjugation of one of the major deities of the Andean pantheon, the puma, reflecting the effect of the process of Extirpation of Idolatries, carried on by the Spanish colonial administration. En esta pieza escultórica de cerámica vidriada y de función silbadora del arte colonial temprano, es decir de los primeros 150 a?os después de la conquista, vemos que el tema del sometimiento del venado que ha estado presente en el arte de diversas culturas precolombinas desde tiempos tempranos, ha sido reemplazado por un personaje de poder sometiendo y llevando sobre sus hombros a un felino. Lo que se está representando es el sometimiento de una de las divinidades mayores del panteón andino, es decir el puma, reflejando el efecto del proceso de Extirpación de Idolatrías. (UH)
