The Kinkozan Pottery1880s 该作品的收藏者: This vase and its pair (accession number 1887.68), created by Kinkozan Sobei (1823–1884, the sixth generation of Kinkozan potters), best illustrate the high quality of early Kyoto export ware in the late nineteenth century. Like other Japanese decorators at the time, Sobei combined traditional Japanese motifs with brighter, more vibrant colors to appeal to the Victorian taste of the Western markets. This vase features the Japanese ritual drum (taigo) decorated with the auspicious triple comma (mitsu-tomoe) design. The elegant design, the bold contrasts of colors, and…

Vase – Tádé Sikorski
Tádé Sikorski1901 该作品的收藏者: The bulging bottom supports a long, cylindrical neck, softly twisted, enriched with wavy curves and dents. The pattern of the blue and white glaze is also marbled, wavy. The four poppy stems that spring from the foot are also twisted, creating a connected pattern of small golden-green mosaic-like squares. There were several “plated” decorations like the above at the end of the 5th and at the beginning of the 6th Décor book of the Zsolnay factory, without the identification of the designer. It is a significant fact…

At the top, an Oriental cloud motif is repeated four times. The bottom border is decorated with a wavy geometrical pattern. There is an alley of poplar trees leading to the distance from the bushy shore. The setting sun appears behind the hills; there are clouds in the sky. All this is reflected in the water, bright but washed-out. The rich scale of dark…

Vase – Rozenburg Den Haag
Rozenburg Den Haag1903 该作品的收藏者: This extraordinary vase, made by the Rozenburg factory in Holland, epitomizes the reasons Rozenburg is considered the most exquisite of all Art Nouveau porcelain: a daringly drawn-out shape, impossibly thin body, and extraordinary naturalistic painting. Using a bone-china recipe developed in the 1890s, the factory slip-cast the delicate vessels in a revolving mold in which liquid clay was spun outward by centrifugal force. The process allowed for the handles of vases and spouts of teapots to be formed as one piece with the body rather than…

R?rstrand Porslins Fabriker (R?rstrand Porcelain Manufactory) (Swedish, estab. 1726)1904 该作品的收藏者: The R?rstrand Porcelain Manufactory was established in 1726 under the patronage of the Swedish royal family. Today it is most noted for its Art Nouveau porcelain, made around the turn of the twentieth century. This vase represents a particularly beautiful Art Nouveau line known as “R?rstrand Black,” which fed the demand for high-gloss, black-ground vessels with pastel floral decorations. At that time, black was a new, technically achieved underglaze color; all of the leading potteries, including Rookwood (Black Iris line),…
